Train driver gets 3-yr jail for killing jumbos

The Dehradun District Court today gave three-year imprisonment to a train driver accused of killing three elephants in the Rajaji National Park 12 years ago. The accused has also been fined Rs 10,000.

Train driver Vijayapal had allegedly killed a female elephant and her two young ones, as the pachyderms were crushed under the moving train being driven by him.

According to the judgment, the train was moving faster than the stipulated speed inside the national park. The accident took place on September 28, 1998....
