Maya feared dead, but bones found at Tadoba are of sambar

16 Mar 24

Nagpur: Maya, the legendary tigress of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR), is feared dead and has not been sighted for the last seven months. The DNA analysis of bones of a skeleton found in her area inside the park has turned out to be of a sambar deer. TATR officials were of the view that the remains were of Maya. The DNA analysis has further deepened the missing mystery.

Maya (T-12) was last sighted on August 23, 2023, in Panchdhara near Tadoba lake. However, she has not been seen since then, raising concern about her well-being and whereabouts.

TOI on October 6, 2023, was the first to raise Maya’s missing mystery. Amid hue and cry by tourists and conservationists, the park management launched an intensive physical and digital search for T12 from October 7, 2023, in her territory.
